Cabinet Refinishing in Iowa

Did you know you can give your kitchen cabinets a fresh look at a fraction of the cost of replacing them? Update your cabinets the easy way by refinishing them. Find out how below.

What is Cabinet Refinishing?

It’s easy to think that cabinet refinishing in Iowa is exactly like painting. After all, the professional is applying a paint to your cabinets, right? While that is technically true, cabinet refinishing is more sophisticated and results in a finish that will last you for years to come. The difference is not only in the preparation of the wood, but also in the type of finish and tools that are used. Our finish is factory-grade, so your cabinets will look just like new. We also employ a “no brush finish” that results in a cleaner look.

Why is Refinishing Cabinets in Iowa Cheaper than Replacing Your Cabinets?

When replacing your cabinets, you have to remove the old cabinets, then the new ones need to be installed. That’s a lot of labor, materials, and cost! When you refinish, only the doors and drawers come off. That’s not only a lot cheaper, but is also much less hassle for you. You can even leave items in your cupboards! The only thing we suggest is to take out any good china or expensive items. We will be as careful as possible, but we want to make sure those items are protected.

If you want to go this route for your job, please let us know ASAP so we can discuss that process with you. To avoid delays in your job and the additional fee, please choose a Sherwin Williams brand color. You can find them on their excellent website here

Technically, yes. However, if you’re using more than one color per room, we charge an additional fee as that changes our labor and schedule needs. If you want to use another color in another room, we don’t charge an additional fee for that.

If the item is under warranty, we will absolutely take care of it for you. Please note that we will have to make time in our schedule to take care of it and we may not have time available right away. Please refer back to the Important Information sheet you signed for your job with us for information on the warranty provided with your job.

If the item is not under warranty, then we can come out to repair items but it will incur a charge and we do not plan time in our schedule for repairs. That means that we will make time when we have it. We are not a repair company or a handyman. If you have a need that is not under warranty and it can be handled by someone else, such as a loose handle or hinge, then we recommend that you hire a repair service who has more time available for those kinds of tasks.

Yes, we require a 30% deposit to get started on your job.

Indeed we do. We sell multiple brands and three of those are the top brands in the USA: Bereson, Amerock, and Hickory. Here’s a link to our catalog. When you’re ready to order, send us the full handle, knob, or pull number using this online form, and don’t forget to let us know how many you want to order. If you’re ordering multiple and we’re doing a job with you, let us also know where we need to install each handle, knob, or pull.

We can be in and out of your house within 3 to 5 days, with most cabinet refinishing or refacing jobs lasting only 3 days. In some rare instances, a job might last longer, especially if we’re refinishing multiple surfaces in multiple rooms of the house. Please note that we will also need to schedule a time to enter the home to take measurements if you are doing a cabinet refacing with us. That is not included in the 3 to 5 day estimate.

What is your process for a cabinet refinishing (resurfacing) and cabinet refacing?

We take great pride in our process that differentiates us from regular cabinet painters and some of our competitors.

For cabinet refinishing (painting) cabinets, that process involves:

  • Taping off your appliances and other surfaces that should not be painted.
  • Creating a “bubble” so that paint overspray doesn’t escape the immediate work area.
  • Cleaning and degreasing your doors and frames to remove any foreign substances.
  • Sanding your doors and frames before priming and in between each coat of paint, which helps the primer and paint to adhere better.
  • Priming your doors and frames with an oil-based primer.
  • Painting your doors and frames with multiple coats of commercial and cabinet-grade paint.
  • Installing your existing doors (usually) on the final day.
  • Providing you with care instructions so your paint can cure properly and last for years to come.
  • Communicating with you via email, text, and in person (when possible) about what you need to know during the process so we can keep our scheduled date for your job and so you are informed.

For a cabinet refacing, our process involves:

Our staining process, which is only included with a cabinet refacing or custom cabinets, is slightly different. If you’re interested, give us a call and we’ll answer any questions.

Thank you for accepting the estimate. Our system doesn’t automatically turn those into invoices (where you would be able to pay) and we have to do that manually. We receive a notification when you accept the estimate and will convert that to an invoice as soon as possible. The email where you can click to view the invoice will have the deposit amount on it. You are welcome to pay via credit or debit card with our online portal by clicking “pay now” or send us a check to the address listed on your invoice.

While we do use the Sherwin Williams colors, the formula of paint we use cannot be bought off the shelf at a store. We order it from our paint manufacturer where it is mixed special. The paint we use is a commercial and cabinet grade paint. Most paint you get from a paint store is not made to go on and stay on cabinets, even if it says so.

We are head-quartered in the Des Moines area, but we service the entire state of Iowa with most of the services we offer. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call or use our contact form to ask us whether we offer a specific service in your area.

Cabinet refinishing (or resurfacing) is a process where we apply a new finish (paint) to your existing cabinets and doors. Cabinet refacing involves us making new doors (and sometimes new drawer boxes) installing those new items and refinishing everything so that it matches. Cabinet refinishing is the most cost-effective option and can save you a lot of money over a custom cabinet job. A cabinet refacing is more expensive, but gives you the benefit of having new doors, which is the part that most people see and admire in a kitchen.

We offer a 30 day warranty on new installed hardware on new doors. If we refinished (resurfaced) your cabinet doors (also included in a refacing) and you experience peeling, cracking, or chipping within the first year we will repair your doors at no cost (as long as we have the color available and you bring the doors to us). If we don’t have your color available, there will be a charge to order it. We also provide a 90 day warranty for the paint on the frames if you had your cabinets refinished (resurfaced) or refaced with us. For new customers, please view the full, up-to-date details of our warranties on our job start information page and look for the “Warranty and Considerations” section. For past customers, refer back to the Important Information sheet that you signed before the job began.

We accept check, credit or debit card, and cash. If you are paying by check, please mail to: 9975 NW 121st St, Granger, IA 50109
