Transforming a Kitchen with Custom Kitchen Cabinets That Extend Upper Cabinets to the Ceiling

At Cabinet RX, we take pride in helping homeowners bring their kitchen dreams to life through precision craftsmanship and high-quality materials. Leroy E. in Grimes wanted to transform his kitchen cabinets without doing a complete remodel. We talked with him about the different options and provided multiple quotes for those different options.

The Plan: Elevating Upper Cabinets to New Heights by Extending Cabinets to the Ceiling

Leroy wanted to enhance the look and functionality of his kitchen without undergoing a complete remodel. He decided to update his kitchen cabinets by replacing his old upper cabinets with new upper cabinets which extended to the ceiling, while also updating all his cabinet doors and drawer fronts, so that everything would match. We were thrilled to take on the challenge and design a solution that would achieve his vision while maintaining the integrity of his existing kitchen layout. Check out this video below to see what Leroy’s kitchen looked like before extending his custom kitchen cabinets to the ceiling.

The Custom Kitchen Cabinet Makeover Process

Our team at Cabinet RX carefully planned and executed the transformation with precision and attention to detail. Here’s how we brought Leroy’s dream kitchen to life:

  • Prepping the Kitchen Cabinets: First, we took the old cabinets upper cabinets out. Then we installed the new cabinet frames and prepped the kitchen to spray the paint on the existing and new cabinet frames.
  • Extending the Cabinets to the Ceiling: We modified the existing cabinetry to extend all the way to the ceiling, eliminating wasted dead space, providing additional storage, and giving the kitchen a polished, custom look.
  • New Custom Shaker 45 Doors: To modernize the design, we crafted brand-new Shaker 45 doors, known for their timeless appeal and clean lines.
  • Flat Crown Molding Addition: To complete the extension, we installed sleek flat crown molding at the top of the cabinets, adding a finishing touch.
  • Fresh Paint in “Gray Screen” by Sherwin-Williams: We sprayed both the cabinet frames and new doors in Sherwin-Williams’ “Gray Screen,” a sophisticated and versatile neutral shade that brought a fresh, contemporary feel to the space.
  • Upgraded Hardware: Finally, we installed new soft-close hinges on the doors and new handles for the doors and drawer fronts to complement the updated look, providing both aesthetic appeal and enhanced functionality.

The Results: A Stunning Kitchen Transformation

The final result was nothing short of spectacular. By building new custom kitchen cabinets which extend to the ceiling and incorporating custom Shaker 45 doors with flat crown molding, Leroy’s kitchen now boasts a sleek and cohesive design. The “Gray Screen” paint color added a touch of modern elegance, while the new handles tied everything together seamlessly.
